ULTRAKILL is a fast-paced, retro-inspired first-person shooter (FPS) developed by Arsi "Hakita" Patala and published by New Blood Interactive. Released into Early Access on September 3, 2020, it combines the intense action of classic '90s shooters with modern gameplay inspired by games like Doom Eternal and Devil May Cry.
In ULTRAKILL, you embody V1, a prototype blood-powered machine, descending into the depths of Hell in search of this vital resource. The game unfolds through levels inspired by the layers of Dante's Inferno, divided into acts and layers, each with multiple levels.
The combat is fast-paced and stylized, encouraging the player to combine weapons and abilities to creatively eliminate enemies. The arsenal includes weapons with primary and alternate attacks, as well as robotic arms with unique functions. Health regenerates by absorbing blood from enemies, incentivizing an aggressive playstyle.
Performance is evaluated by a "style meter" that rewards flashy and efficient actions. At the end of each level, a grade is awarded based on style, timing, and kills. Achieving a "P" (Perfect) grade requires excellence in all categories without dying.
